Park And Draft Spinning

When you are first learning to spin, it helps to use the park and draft method. In this way, you can keep control of the spindle's speed, and the amount of twist it generates, at all times.

Pinching off your fiber source securely, so that no twist can enter the drafting zone, give your spindle a spin. Not too much, now!

Then stop the spindle and hold it between your knees, so that the twist cannot unwind.

While the spindle is "parked" in this manner (and you don't have to worry about it!), practice your drafting, allowing the twist to enter the drafting zone a little at a time. When you feel the spun singles beginning to "run out of twist," it's time to wind on what you've spun and repeat the procedure.
